Hearken HEA Series Compact Quarter Turn Electric Valve Actuator Production Process
Hearken HEA compact quarter turn electric valve actuators are manufactured in-house with standard ISO 5211 flanges for direct valve mounting, and pass 100% air-leakage and load-bench torque testing before shipment.
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Step 1: Raw Housing Inspection | Step 2: CNC Machining & Deburring | Step 3: Powder Coating Inspection |
| When raw die-cast aluminum housings arrive, wall thickness and casting structure are checked to rule out pores or cracks, ensuring a solid foundation for the compact electric valve actuator. | CNC milling, drilling, and thread tapping are done in-house for HEA housings, end covers, ISO 5211 bases, and cable entries. Sharp edges are ground down and metal chips are blown off to protect internal gears. | Cleaned housings get a heavy epoxy powder coating. Coating thickness and paint bonding are checked to give the compact electric actuator a rust-proof finish for indoor and outdoor setups. |

Step 4: Post-Coating Thread Re-Tapping | Step 5: Direct ISO 5211 Valve Mounting and Drive Sleeve Options | Step 6: Air Tightness & Pressure Decay Testing |
| After powder coating, HEA compact quarter turn electric valve actuator all threaded holes on the base and cable entries are tapped again. This cleans out leftover powder so bolts and cable connectors screw in smoothly without getting stuck. | HEA compact quarter turn electric valve actuators feature standard ISO 5211 mounting flanges (such as F03 and F05) with a double square drive socket for direct valve alignment. We also supply custom reducing sleeves or adapters to fit your specific valve stems. | Hearken compect quarter turn electric valve actuator not only can pass submersion water sealing test, but also can pass the air tightness pressure decay test As far as we all know air tightness pressure decay test is more authoritative for formal acceptance with measurable leakage values, while the submersion test serves merely as a visual method to find leakage positions. |

FAQ About HEA Series Compect Quarter Turn Electric Valve Actuator
Q1: Is the compact quarter turn electric valve actuator torque sufficient for my valve?
Please share your valve type, size, and working pressure. Our HEA Series quarter turn electric actuator covers a wide torque range from 30 N·m up to 2000 N·m for 0~270° quarter-turn operation. We will calculate and recommend the exact model for your application.
Q2: Should I choose the on/off type or modulating type?
If your valve only needs to open and close fully, go with the on/off type. If you need to control flow rate precisely, choose the modulating type, which regulates valve positions using 4–20mA or 0–10VDC control signals.
For modulating control, we offer three hardware configurations:
- Modulating Type (No Screen): An external control box mounted on the actuator for direct PLC signal control, without a display screen or local buttons.
- Modulating Type (With Screen): An external control box equipped with an LCD display and buttons for easy on-site calibration and position reading.
- Integral Type: Features an integrated display screen and selector switches, allowing you to easily switch between local on/off operation and remote modulating control right on site.
Q3: What power supply voltages are available?
The HEA Series compact quarter turn electric valve actuator is available in 380V AC, 220V AC, 110V AC, and 24V DC. We will send you the right standard model for your local voltage.
Q4: Can it work reliably outdoors, in humid areas, or at high temperatures?
Yes. The HEA series compact quarter turn electric valve actuator features an IP67 weatherproof housing for outdoor installations and built-in motor thermal overload protection for high ambient temperatures. For high-humidity or cold environments, an optional space heater can be added to prevent internal condensation.
Q5: Can you provide the mounting dimensions and wiring diagrams?
Absolutely. We provide detailed dimensions and clear wiring diagrams for all models. We will also verify the mounting compatibility based on your valve’s flange standard and stem size before order confirmation.
Q6: Is position feedback available for remote monitoring?
Yes, position feedback is available. We can equip the actuator with a position feedback potentiometer or sensor, outputting standard signals to your control room for real-time monitoring.
Q7: Is there any protection mechanism during a sudden power failure?
Normally, the actuator stays in its current position when power is lost.
If you need the valve to move when power fails, we offer an optional power-off auto reset. It will automatically drive the valve fully open or fully closed as soon as the power cuts off.
Q8: Can I mount the HEA quarter turn electric actuator directly to the valve?
Yes, as long as the valve has an ISO 5211 flange and a matching stem. For non-standard valves or high-temperature lines, we provide a bracket and coupler to fit the connection and protect the actuator from pipeline heat.
Q9: Can you provide a complete automated valve solution?
Yes, Hearken Flow provides complete valve automation packages. We mount the actuator to the ball or butterfly valves you need, calibrate the travel, and test the whole electric valve before shipping.
HEA Series Compect Quarter Turn Electric Valve Actuator Technical Troubleshooting & Maintenance
Q1: What happens if high AC power is wrongly connected to a 24VDC HEA compact electric valve actuator?
Connecting high AC voltage (like 110V or 220VAC) directly to a 24VDC compact electric valve actuator will instantly burn out both the electric motor and the main circuit board. Since the motor windings are burned out under extreme over-voltage, you must replace the entire unit. Always double-check your power supply voltage and DC positive/negative wires before turning on the power.
Q2: Why is my HEA quarter turn electric valve actuator running much slower than normal (e.g., over 40 seconds instead of 30 seconds)?
A sudden drop in speed on a quarter turn electric valve actuator is usually caused by a wiring error on a 3-wire system. Sending power to both the open and close wires at the same time burns out one set of the motor coils. This causes a big loss in power and makes the actuator run very slow. Check your wiring setup immediately. If the motor coils are already burned, you need to replace the motor or the complete unit.
Q3: How do I connect the 220VAC feedback terminals (7, 8, and 9) on a HEA quarter turn valve actuator?
On a standard quarter turn valve actuator, Terminals 7, 8, and 9 are simple dry-contact switches (no live power output) used to show valve position:
- Terminal 7: Common wire input.
- Terminal 8: Open position signal (switches on when fully open).
- Terminal 9: Close position signal (switches on when fully closed).
Wiring tip: Run your PLC or indicator light signal through Terminal 7 as a simple loop. Never feed live power directly into these dry contact terminals.
Q4: What causes the internal PCB board to fail on a HEA compact electric actuator?
Circuit board failures on a compact electric actuator usually happen because of two common job-site problems:
- Unstable Power or Wiring Issues: Power surges, missing phases on 380V setups, loose neutral wires, or voltage spikes will burn the electrical parts on the board.
- Valve Jamming / Motor Stall: If the valve stem gets stuck, the motor stops turning (stalls). This draws a huge amount of current and burns out the drive parts on the board.
Q5: Why is my HEA compact quarter turn electric valve actuator motor getting very hot during operation?
Overheating in a compact quarter turn electric valve actuator is usually caused by three main issues:
- Limit Switch Misalignment: If the internal switches are not set right to cut power at the end of the turn, the motor will keep pushing against the mechanical stop, stall, and heat up quickly.
- Stuck Valve: A stiff or jammed valve stem forces the actuator to work harder than normal.
- Voltage Too Low or Unstable: Running the actuator far outside the normal voltage range (+/-10%) can also cause the motor to overheat.
Q6: What causes clicking noises or gear jumping in a HEA quarter turn electric actuator?
Gear noise or jerky movement in a quarter turn electric actuator usually means there is dirt or debris inside the gear mechanism. Open the cover and check the spur gears and worm gears for metal dust, small particles, or dried-up grease. Cleaning out the gears and adding fresh grease will make it run smoothly again.
Q7: Why does my fail-safe HEA quarter turn electric valve actuator open fine, but won’t auto-close during a power outage?
On a battery-backup quarter turn electric valve actuator, this almost always means the internal battery is empty. Keep the main power connected for a few hours so the battery can fully charge before you test the power-loss auto-close feature. Do not disconnect or remove the internal battery pack.
Q8: Should I install an anti-condensation heater if water forms inside the HEA compact electric valve actuator in wet or damp places?
Yes. In hot and wet areas or outdoor locations with big day-to-night temperature changes, moist air inside a compact electric valve actuator can turn into water drops. Installing our optional internal heater keeps the inside dry and protects the circuit board from water damage.
