Fast Batching & Precision Dosing Lines

                    Recommended Models: HPA Series — 3-Position Actuators (0°-45°-90° / 0°-90°-180°)

Designed for multi-stage flow control and precision dosing without requiring complex external mechanical linkages. The HPA 3-Position series incorporates dual auxiliary internal pistons and external adjustment bolts that mechanically lock rotation at precise mid-stroke angles (e.g., 20°, 30°, 45°, 75°). This enables repeatable two-stage (full-flow / trickle-dosing) automation when paired with standard quarter-turn valves, delivering a compact, high-precision dosing package.

Chemical Skids & Acid Vapor Zones

Recommended Models: HPAS Series (Stainless Steel) or HPAP Series (Corrosion-Resistant Plastic)

Airborne acid fumes corrode standard aluminum actuator exteriors long before internal seals wear out, causing rapid housing failure on chemical skids. Hearken supplies the HPAS (Solid Stainless Steel) and HPAP (Engineered Plastic) series, as their external housings are inherently immune to atmospheric chemical attack. Combined with internal Viton O-rings, they deliver a complete dual-layer defense against external vapors and internal air-supply contaminants, securing high-liability chemical automation orders.

                    Offshore & Marine Platforms

Recommended Models: HPAM Series (Rack & Pinion with Manual Handwheel)

Heavy salt spray severely corrodes exposed drive shafts, while marine safety regulations strictly require manual override capability during power or air supply failure. The HPAM series, built with an electroless nickel-plated shaft, hard-anodized housing, and stainless fasteners, incorporates an integrated declutchable handwheel with an automatic spring lock pin. This enables immediate delivery of a compact, marine-compliant quarter-turn package with built-in emergency manual operation straight out of the box—without needing bulky external declutchable gearboxes.

Damp, Wet & Water Treatment Environments

Recommended Models: HPAP Series (Engineered Plastic) or HAT / HPA Series (Anodized Aluminum)

High humidity in municipal filtration plants causes external body rust and bi-metallic galling between moving internal components. For UPVC/CPVC plastic lines, our HPAP series delivers a 100% corrosion-proof engineered plastic housing at 50% the weight of aluminum, eliminating pipeline strain completely. For metallic valves, our HAT/HPA series features non-metallic composite piston bearings that isolate internal moving metals, preventing bi-metallic galvanic corrosion and giving your valve automated package quotes a strong competitive edge in water treatment tenders.

                    FAQ

It delivers a linear and constant torque output across the entire 0–90° stroke. When sized with a standard safety factor, this flat power curve easily covers the initial breakaway torque of ball valves while ensuring smooth, predictable actuation for all quarter-turn applications.

Pneumatic output torque scales directly with air supply pressure, so it cannot self-adjust dynamically. However, torque output can be easily configured during factory assembly or field sizing to match specific project requirements:

                    • Spring Return (Single-Acting): Reconfigure the internal spring cartridge count (e.g., 8, 10, or 12 springs). Lower air pressures require fewer springs to allow proper stroke travel, while higher supply pressures allow full spring sets for maximum fail-safe torque.
                    • Double-Acting: Output relies entirely on supply pressure and cylinder bore size. If available air pressure drops significantly below design standards, step up to the next cylinder body size. Standardized ISO 5211 and NAMUR mounting patterns ensure upsizing without modifying valve brackets or drive couplings.

We offer two distinct manual override options across our rack and pinion pneumatic actuator lines:

                    • Integrated Handwheel Series (HPAM): Features a built-in side-mounted handwheel directly engineered onto the actuator housing for a compact, space-saving unit.
                    • Declutchable Gearbox Solutions (HPA, HPA Extended Shaft, HAT, HBT, HPAP, HPAS): These pneumatic actuator models can be seamlessly paired with an HDM Series Declutchable Gearbox installed between the actuator and valve flange for emergency manual operation.

The standard pinion is treated with a chemical nickel plating for corrosion protection and features an internal blow-out prevention ring. This design absolutely prevents the pinion from being ejected under air pressure when removing the top indicator or accessories, ensuring on-site safety.

We recommend installing an air filter-regulator (FR) at the air inlet to remove particulates and condensate. For applications with smart positioners or precision solenoid valves, 25-micron filter elements are available to meet instrument air quality requirements. Upon request, we can pre-assemble the FR unit with the actuator prior to shipment.

Yes. Our standard rotary pneumatic actuators come standard with bidirectional independent travel adjustment bolts on both sides of the end cap. This allows for ±5-degree mechanical fine-tuning at the fully open (90°) and fully closed (0°) positions.

Yes. We supply complete genuine seal and spare part kits for all models. You can bundle these with your main order or source them separately to support your spare parts sales, retrofit projects, or aftermarket customer service needs.
