Scotch Yoke Pneumatic Actuator Manufacturer
Your Professional Scotch Yoke Pneumatic Actuators Manufacturer in China
Hearken supplies valve distributors and OEM integrators globally. We offer two production lines in our factory to satisfy distinct engineering demands:
- HPA-G Series Heavy-Duty Pneumatic Actuator: The HPA-G Series consists of large, high-torque scotch yoke valve actuator units. This design withstands severe breakaway torque in large-bore, heavy industrial valve packages.
- HPAC Series Compact Scotch and Yoke Actuator: The HPAC Series offers a space-saving, highly integrated actuator scotch yoke configuration. It serves buyers who require the unique torque curve of a pneumatic scotch yoke actuator within a compact footprint for smaller line sizes. This setup replaces standard rack-and-pinion designs.
Both scotch yoke actuators offer enclosures tailored to specific applications. Heavy-duty units use ductile iron or cast steel housings. Compact fork-type pneumatic valve actuator options utilize extruded aluminum with hard-anodized surfaces or epoxy coatings. These materials ensure casing strength under torque stress. Partnering with a source manufacturer allows your business to cover all heavy-duty scotch yoke actuator project specifications. Hearken provides a single supply chain to reduce procurement hassle and minimize post-sale warranty claims.

Why Choose Hearken’s Scotch Yoke Pneumatic Actuators?
Two Scotch Yoke Mechanism Options
Hearken offers symmetrical and canted designs for the pneumatic scotch yoke actuator. Symmetrical configurations deliver identical peak torque at 0° and 90°. In contrast, canted designs tilt the fork-type actuator axis to optimize leverage. This design provides higher torque at the beginning of the stroke to overcome initial valve seat friction. These units remain the standard choice for heavy-duty scotch yoke actuator configurations on high-performance butterfly valves.

Multi-Module Design Scotch Yoke Pneumatic Actuator

Hearken designs scotch yoke valve actuator systems with a decoupled, modular architecture to reduce inventory costs for distributors. This modular design features independent drive cylinders and spring-return units. The warehouse team can reconfigure these independent modules between double-acting, spring-return, or manual override setups on-demand. This flexibility satisfies shifting contract requirements without holding duplicate inventory.
To complement this platform, Hearken provides an integrated accessory matrix. The factory aligns and pre-tests every complete automated package before delivery. This protocol eliminates procurement friction and removes the assembly or warranty risks of using third-party channels.
Adding a manual override to the fork-type pneumatic valve actuator improves system safety. This mechanism ensures manual control during emergencies and simplifies equipment commissioning. To satisfy distinct engineering demands, Hearken offers multiple manual configurations, including direct screw, nut screw, gear, and hydraulic options. The standardized physical modules support all configurations.
Hearken provides the following modular components to complete these configurations:
- Balance rod module
- Cabinet module
- Cylinder module
- Manual pump module
- Hydraulic cylinder module
- Spring module
- Hydraulic manual module
- Screw rod manual module
- Gear manual module
Hearken scotch yoke pneumatic actuators carry international certifications, including SIL 3, ATEX, and IP67.

Performance Certification:
The pneumatic scotch yoke actuator holds EN 15714-3 and EN 13906-1 certifications for lifecycle and spring performance. The mounting dimensions comply with ISO 5211 and VDI/VDE 3845 standards, allowing standard installation. Low-temperature operation is validated according to ISO 12490.
Protection Certification:
Hearken heavy-duty scotch yoke actuators hold ingress protection certifications for water and dust resistance, making them suitable for harsh environments. Applicable standards include IP66, IP66M, IP67, IP67M, EN 60529 / IEC 60529, and NEMA 250 / NEMA 4 / NEMA 4X.
Safety Certification:
Hearken holds multiple safety and quality certifications for hazardous operating conditions. These include explosion-proof certification EN ISO 80079-36 & 37, environmental test IEC 60721-2-1, corrosion resistance testing ISO 12944-6, functional safety standard IEC 61508, and quality management system ISO 9001.
Hearken tests every scotch yoke pneumatic actuator before shipment. This multi-stage compliance testing aligns with international industrial standards, such as EN 15714-3.
Critical Component Validation
Hearken inspects protocols that cover cylinder bore cylindricity, roundness, and surface roughness. These checks ensure proper seal contact and prevent internal leakage.
Pneumatic Pressure & Leakage Testing
Every pneumatic scotch yoke actuator undergoes pressure and full-stroke leakage testing to verify structural safety. Testing also verifies the minimum start-up pressure to ensure smooth, low-friction mechanism travel.
Upgrade Your Heavy-Duty Actuator Supply Chain
Hearken heavy-duty scotch yoke actuators deliver up to 250,000 Nm of torque. The optimized yoke mechanism minimizes lateral loads on valve stems while providing high breakaway torque for large-bore valves. The heavy-duty housing prevents mechanical wear under severe operating conditions.
Direct sourcing from Hearken optimizes your supply chain, ensures compliance with international standards such as EN 15714-3, and simplifies procurement. Contact us to request catalogs, dimensional drawings, or bulk pricing.

FAQs
Canted scotch yoke actuators deliver high starting torque (break-out torque) and lower mid-stroke torque. This curve suits high-performance butterfly valves (double or triple-offset), large rotary valves, and high-differential pressure valves where overcoming initial seat friction is critical.
Symmetrical scotch yoke actuators provide a balanced torque curve. They are primarily used on ball valves and plug valves.
Sizing an actuator purely on peak torque requirements without matching the torque curve is a common error. Pls kindly follow two key principles as below:
- High-Pressure Butterfly Valves: Do not select symmetric actuators. Sizing a symmetric model to meet initial opening torque results in an oversized actuator, increasing procurement costs and air consumption. A canted design provides roughly 30% more starting force, allowing a more compact actuator choice.
- Soft-Seated Ball Valves with High Packing Friction: Do not select canted actuators. When a valve requires sustained running torque throughout travel, the mid-stroke torque dip of a canted mechanism can stall the valve.
The mechanism generates a U-shaped torque curve. Under high-temperature, dry, and high-pressure steam conditions, it delivers maximum torque right at valve opening to overcome seat adhesion caused by severe media.
We recommend a safety margin of at least 30%–40% when sizing the cylinder. High-pressure steam and similar media are non-lubricating and highly abrasive. Calculating from the valve’s peak operating torque with this extra margin prevents under-powered operation during long-term service.
Absolutely. Hearken Flow heavy-duty scotch yoke actuators can incorporate an independent hydraulic manual override pump. During site power or air supply failures, operators can use the manual hydraulic pump to stroke large valves smoothly.
We pack all heavy export equipment in high-strength, fumigation-free wooden crates. The interior features multi-layer flexible strapping and shock-absorbing supports. This protects structural integrity and prevents moisture damage during ocean or air transit.
Yes, we offer color-coded air ports such as red and blue. This option helps your factory assembly teams identify ports visually, speeding up piping work and avoiding connection errors during valve mounting.
Our standard pressure range is 3 to 8 bar. We configure the optimal cylinder and spring modules based on your site air pressure. This ensures a safe torque margin while optimizing your sizing and procurement costs.
